Where are you?

I have not been seeing patients in over 6 months. Anyone lucky enough to be near me in my daily life has benefited because my hands miss the work. I went into massage knowing I would make less money, however I didnt realize just how much it would be, I didnt realize that the hours would keep me away from my family, I didnt realize the amount of expenses I would face (accounting, insurance, multiple business licenses, not to mention massage trainings and supplies). I left massage and returned to Pharmacy Research. It is nice to still be working with patients and helping people. The office hours are better, the pay is better, the benefits are better. I feel very lucky to have landed the job in this bad economy.
I have recently been missing massage something fierce. I keep running into people suffering from migraines/headaches and miss being in the track for their treatment.
I take it day by day and you never know what each one holds. I thank God for everyday and evey blessing, for all my job skills I am blessed. But to all my massage patients, those suffering from injury and especially those suffering from Migraines and Headaches...I MISS YOU!

Weightloss?

Who hasn't had to fight extra pounds? Most of us have battled to some degree or another to keep slim, trim and healthy. Its not easy, I know better then most how hard it can be to lose weight, how life can really make it harder then it sounds and how multi leveled the problem is. I too have tried most pills, support groups and diets that are around. So when I read this little blurb in the Tacoma newspaper, I was excited and anxious to share with my friends.
Let me say this first, most pills I tried didn't work or only a little or the side effects were horrific. Metagenics is a company that I know a fair amount about. Having worked for over 7yrs in pharmacy research, I was always impressed that they actually perform true FDA studies on all their supplements (not aware of any other company that does this consistently) also, they have huge teams of nurses and doctors working for them AND who really believe in their products. I was introduced by a pharmacist who felt theses products were far superior and worth the price (they are more money), he went on and on like a darn commercial so I had to ask if he was being paid in some way by them and he was not, he felt so passionately about the health benefits of some of these for his patients that he carried them (even though because of cost there were a hard sell, he wanted them available for those who would do it). There are not easy products to come by because mostly you can only get them from a trained (specially by the company) doctor or very very rarely a pharmacy. St Joes used to carry them but i don't think they do any longer and so Costless Prescriptions is the only place i personally know of who carry them. I also got to watch a woman lose 50lbs following one of their programs including meal replacement shakes she buys there.
OK OK, here's what the paper said (bridged)FMRC.
"Weight-loss Study"
we are looking for healthy volunteers for a research study investigating the effects of a natural product to help maintain post-diet weight loss
Participation required that you take a study product or placebo, complete questionnaires, and have blood drawn over a 64 week period. Study related tests and products are provided at no charge....for more info: FMRC.METAGENICS.COM"
So, I am not getting paid in any way for this, but i think it might be great help to some of you out there! Let me know how it goes if you try and everything from there!

Massage PROVENT in multiple studies to help Migraines and Headaches

2010 - Researchers at the University of Granada (SPAIN) -- in collaboration with the Clinical Hospital San Cecilio and the University Rey Juan Carlos -- have shown that the psychological and physiological state of patients with tension headache As researchers explained, the number of people suffering from migraines/headaches has drastically increased. Good news, here are some of the benefits massage showed in this study:
**improves within 24 hours after receiving a 30-minute massage...
**reduce the stress and anxiety associated to such a disturbing disorder

In a 2006 study published in the Annals of Behavioural Medicine, massage therapy recipeints exhibited fewer migraines and better sleep quatlity than the control group.

A 1998 study published in the International Journal of Neuroscience found that massage therapy decreased the occurance of headaches, sleep disturbances and distress symptoms in adults with migraines.

2008 - Colorado medical study, Boulder College of Massage Therapy sponsored a unique study with subjects who suffered from chronic and severe tension headaches. After 4 weeks of specific massage treatments (compared to 4 weeks of no treatment) the subjects showed not only an immediate inprovement but a prolonged improvement as well.

Each client was given a 30 minute head and neck massage with specific protocols to follow within the given time frame.

The number of tension headaches dropped almost by half the very first week of massage treatments and by the end of the 4 weeks had decreased in frequency even further. It was also interesting to note that most of the clients reported a decrease in the severity of the tension headaches when they did occur.

The conclusion states, “pain associated with chronic tension headache can be alleviated through specific massage therapy treatments directed at cranial and cervical muscles." which is highly encouraging for anyone suffering from chronic headaches due to muscular tension.

I found (or refound) some of these studies while writing a letter to a local neurologist who I am trying to get referals from. So many people take medicine for headaches and migraines without even being told massage might be able to HELP. And sadly, even when the medications fail to work, they just (often) offer more medications rather then massage. So I am making it my mission to inform patients and doctors that MASSAGE HELPS MIGRAINES AND HEADACHES!

Hotel, Massage, Dinner and soak = Happy anniversary

To celebrate our 12th anniversary we went looking for the best deal around. I needed something close to town (huge time limit), affordable (arent we all feeling a little broke and need the best deal), and relaxing/luxury. What did I find? I found many things that were OK But I found something that looked CRAZY GOOD and it turned out it WAS! They say too good to be true, but its not in this case.

"Unwind and Rewind Package
Stay overnight at The INN at Gig Harbor, in one of our Fireplace or Jacuzzi Suites, share a candlelight dinner in our Heritage Restaurant and a relaxing half hour massage for two at the Inn's massage studio.
Room package with dinner and half hour massage for 2. Price: $199.00 plus tax. Does not include tax or gratuity. Subject to availability. Reservations required"

I found parking lot acceptable but didnt have hopes up too high (lack luster) entered the lobby and was greated by a warm fire and some 30's music in the back ground, front desk staff friendly and helpful. WARNING the elevator...it made me sick for over an hour but in fairness I am prone to motion sickness. The room was HUGE and the bed was pretty good (not great but better then silver cloud by far). the tub was awesome and the flat sceeen tv, 2 separate heating/cooling systems, 1 shower, 2 toilets and sinks. there is no on demand movies, but we just rented them ahead of time. A mini fridge and micorwave, complimenatary coffee bar in lobby and some stuff in the room. 2 heavy bath robes.

THEN THE MASSAGE! If you know me, you probably know I am a massage snob. I have had tons of massage (body work) and I love a good one, rare is a great one and bad ones make me crazy. I was nervous. it was 1/2hr for each of us (frank and I) with ability to upgrade offered BEFORE the massage began but luckily Frank said yes (I woulda said no). There was a male and female therapist and I didnt care. Frank likes fluffy relaxing massages and I like deeper more therapeutic massage and with that knowledge the male therapist said I would see him. WOOOOOWWWW! I got ROCKED. He did things, massage moves that I would love to have paid attention to and tried out on my clients later however, I was too busy enjoying the pain relief and relaxation. I cant even describe to you it all only say if you get massage and you like a deep therapeutic style, YOU NEED TO SEE HIM.

Who is him? David Blunk 253-853-3434. He is also very affordable (but you should tip him his worth!). I have only had 1 other massage therapist that was this good and they were equal, she was a physical therapist before becoming a massage therapist. This guy has something like 19yrs experience and is also a massage teacher.

We had dinner at the Herritage resturaunt in the hotel, again great atmosphere and service. Hot bread and butter and great staff..Dinner was ok but the experience was good and knowing room service was available was something for the future....

ALL OF THIS (dinner, hotel and massage) was only $260 and thats because we upgraded the massage to an hour which would have made the total only 199! (you do need to tip on the services which is not in this price but soo worth it).
I hope you found this intersting and helpful!
Its not about massage exactly but it is about a great massage therapist and a relaxing stay, which are in harmony with what i want to bring to peoples lives!
